Search Engine Optimisation
One of the most common questions I get asked is how do you get a website ranked well in Google and the other search engines.
Certainly part of this has to do with web design and having a search engine friendly structure.
And I make sure this is taken care of in any website I build.
But the greater part falls under this subject of Search Engine Optimisation ( also called SEO )
The purpose of SEO is to help your site to rank well in the search engines
- by making it easier for them to understand what your site is about
- and by increasing its relative importance compared to other sites.

If you want a high rank in the main search engines SEO is a must
But .....
SEO is quite complex and time consuming.
There is a lot of research involved, site adjustments, link building and monitoring and so on.
It takes weeks or months to do.

SEO is not the only thing you can do though...
Paid Internet Marketing: Adwords
One very effective internet marketing techniques is pay per click ads (PPC). And Google Adwords is the best of them all.
Do a search on google and the "sponsored ads" you see down the right-hand side and sometimes at the top of the page are the adwords. Those are paid ads.
An Adwords listings give the fastest results possible - often within hours. As opposed to SEO which takes weeks or months.
However it can be expensive. There is also a (fairly steep) learning curve which can see you wasting hundreds or even thousands of dollars before getting it right.

It's not all about search engines though
You don't want to rely on the search engines too much. What would happen if they took a dislike to your site and dropped it 30 places overnight ( it has happened ) or the PPC costs continue to go up until they became unviable?
